Applications of Moisture Meters in Different Industries
A
moisture meter is an important instrument which is used in various industries.
It is used for finding a level of
moisture content in the materials. The authorities who build homes and
buildings, solely rely on these instruments to find out the moisture level in
the soil. It helps in identifying the possible problems and damage to the
structures due to the moisture in the material.
Flooring contractors
use these moisture meters for determining an ideal conditions while fixing a floor over the
concrete slab or another floor.
Most of the moisture
meters are used to calibrate with wood and provides a more precise reading in
case of moisture content in the wood. The ranges of this scale vary from 5% to
40%.
When the moisture
content in materials other than wood is detected, a scale of 0 to m100 is
generally used. Here 0 is the bone and 100 is saturated.
Moisture meters
include LED indicators. These indicators are linked to the reading in
percentage form for dry, medium and saturated or wet level.
Moreover, some meters
also provide a third scale of readings; which is of gypsum. These readings
range from 0.2 to 50%.
Kinds of moisture
meters
The three most common
types of moisture meters which are used for the examination of buildings and
structures are
1. Pin type
2. Pinless
3. All in one.
All these kinds of
moisture meters provide specialised task. These are even unique for the user
because these help in determining the
percentage of MC in the materials.
Pin type
This is a moisture
meter which is used for measuring the percentage of MC at the depth of the head
of the contact pins. These moisture meters have two kinds of pins on the
equipment. These pins are used for piercing into the desired surfaced till the
desired depth. The reading of %MC is found by measuring the electrical conflict
between the two pins.
Pinless moisture
meters
Pinless moisture
meters are generally used for determining the level of moisture on a scale of
0-100%. This is determined by concrete levels and flooring before laying the
wooden floor or any other decorative surface.
Other than this, this
moisture meter is used for identifying the likely moisture content which could
build up behind the bathroom showers. These readers are also able to read up to
a certain depth of ¾” or 1” in the surface. These are used for detecting the
problems which could arise due to moisture buildup where the visual index does
not exist.
All in one moisture
meters
This is the most
useful moisture meter which could either be a pin/pinless/ all in one moisture
meter. It is a kind of moisture meter which uses both methods to measure the
%MC in the surface. This meter also gives an option of measuring the moisture content by
reading and pinpointing the location where the moisture damage is happening.
