How A Universal Testing Machine Can be Helpful

The universal testing machine is ideal for multiple testing applications where compressive and tensile tests must be conducted. Accessories for universal testing machines allow for a greater range of applications with one machine, such as flexural and CBR tests. Investing in a high-quality machine and the right accessories can help you save time and money in the long run, resulting in higher productivity and minimal downtime. All systems are automatic and come with suitable motor or hydraulic stages and control systems.

A universal testing machine typically comes with platens that can be used for the compressive testing of specimens necessary for the machine's maximum load and a set of jaws for handling samples for tensile testing. Different kinds of universal testing machines offer unique features that may help you with multiple testing applications. A servo hydraulic machine for instance is ideal for testing different non-metallic and metallic materials. It can perform bending, flexural, compression, and tension tests.

A computer operates the servo hydraulic universal testing machine’s power pack controlled by a closed loop servo. A standard model has a single space for tension and compression testing. A high-capacity system fitted with bending apparatus or compression platens as required to allow all tests. A load cell is utilised for load measurement while strain measurements are acquired via the built-in electronic displacement transducer or an extensometer fitted to the test sample as required.

Another type of universal testing machine is used for ferrous samples. Known as the 'hydraulic universal test machine', it is capable of supporting compression testing up to its maximum load rating, too. Samples can be up to 40mm flat and eight to 32mm round for tensile tests. The load is measured by load cell, the strain by inbuilt displacement transducer or external extensometer. The machine comes with two test spaces for tension and compression testing.

For civil engineering laboratories focusing on reinforcing steel and concrete testing, there is the automatic tension and compression machine. The machine combines a welded steel frame assembly with the automatic control system technology for a more versatile operation.  An automatic tension and compression machine can perform tensile tests for rebar at up to 22mm, and flat samples can be a maximum of 14mm thick by 50mm wide. Cubes and cylinders that are up to 150mm in dimensions can be subject to compression tests through this machine. The load is measured via a pressure transducer, and the strain is determined via a linear potentiometric displacement transducer.
