Know about How RH Meter is used in Concrete Moisture Testing

Excess moisture can be present in concrete and affect the integrity and durability of the entire structure. High moisture content can cause paint to blister, floor coating to paint, and other problems associated with coating damage. Hence, concrete moisture testing must be conducted using a high-quality device that can provide accurate results. One of the tools you can use in this test is the relative humidity (RH) meter, which is a small and compact sensor that can conduct measurements and provide accurate readings quickly.

Relative humidity testing identifies and monitors concrete moisture levels easily and fast in a minimally destructive manner. This way operators can save time and money. An advanced RH meter for concrete moisture testing minimises damage to the concrete’s surface while reducing the time it takes to set up. The minimal air volume on the test sleeve enables humidity equilibrium to be processed quickly and easily.

When using an RH meter, you need to follow the standards outlined in ASTM F2170, which requires you to place a measuring sleeve specifically on a properly defined depth in concrete. This can be achieved by pre-installing cast holes or drilling a hole while the concrete is still fresh. A surface-based testing method will only measure up to 20mm and may not represent reality. An advanced RH meter relies on insitu technology to determine the actual moisture content in concrete according to the internal environment’s humidity.
