A Look into Soil Testing Equipment
Soil
is the base of foundations for any construction project. It acts as a support
for roads and other crucial infrastructure. It makes good sense to ensure that
you are building on an appropriate soil before construction begins. Soil
testing provides information that can help construction companies and
engineering firms determine the mechanical behaviour of soils. Testing can be
conducted using the right equipment and accessories that go with them.
High-quality soil testing equipment can characterise the soil samples on site
or in the laboratory. Some equipment lets you collect soil samples, classify
soils, and evaluate the mechanical property of the material. Here are some of
the different types of
soil testing equipment:
- CBR test machines – California Bearing Ratio is the test for measuring subgrade soil and highway sub base and subgrade strength. The process involves a penetration test, and the machines are ideal for testing cohesive materials, which are less than 19mm in particle size. CBR testing machines can be automatic, manual, or semi-automatic.
- Soil triaxial testing systems – Equipment for soil triaxial testing can be helpful when designing embankments, foundations, and other structures. Tunnelling, excavations, and construction work can all affect subsoil structures, and the effects can be simulated with a triaxial test, which determines the relationship between stress and strain in undisturbed soil samples, which are subjected to different drainage conditions and stress levels. The equipment can conduct automated triaxial compression tests on remoulded and cylindrical undisturbed soil samples.
- Shear test machine – The
automatic direct or residual shear test equipment lets you determine the
consolidated drained shear strength of sand or soil in a direct shear. The
machine comes with a load hanger, a built-in 9:1, 11:1, and 10:1 lever
loading device, and a carriage assembly. Moreover, it is floor mounted and
motorised. The beam loading device can strengthen vertical load on a shear
box assembly, and it can handle load of up to 50kg.
We just purchased Karol-WArner's load frames, they are amazing! Universal for all soil testing! https://www.karolwarner.com/load-frames
